The SM3 (35/.04) serves as the apical finishing file in the Small Canal sequence. It is used when the apical foramen gauges larger than a #25 file after preparation with the SM2. The SM3 allows the clinician to enlarge the final apical diameter to a #35, ensuring more effective irrigation of the critical apical third, without unnecessarily enlarging the coronal and middle portions of the canal thanks to its conservative .04 taper. The 27mm length is ideal for longer roots, such as canines or select molars.
